Someone You Should Know - Barbara from Silver Springs, MD

Video Temporarily Unavailable......

Meet Barbara.....She's one of the participants from my recent Raw Food Rehab Experiment and she is rocking the raw food diet while traveling in Colorado. What an inspiration and amazing dedication. Here's what Barbara had to say about her experience on the Raw Food Cleanse:

“The raw food cleanse has brought so many positive changes into my life. Saying goodbye to dairy products and gluten containing foods has been a huge aspect of my restored health. No more gas or bloating, YEA! Also my blood pressure went from being borderline to being well within the normal range. Incorporating more raw foods into my diet has helped me to love myself more, putting me in closer touch with the world around me. They say you are what you eat and I believe that is so true. Before I learned about raw foods, I was rushed, always choosing packaged foods that were full of artificial ingredients. Now I appreciate nature’s bounty and find joy in something as simple as a fresh tomato! Every time I chose to eat raw, I’m deciding to be kind to my body. This is a huge breakthrough. It’s like my diet before was self-abusive. I’m truly grateful to have found this life restoring path.”

The Green Beauty juice that she refers to in the video is one of over 150 recipes from my upcoming book, the Raw Food Cleanse. Here is the recipe and a little background on why it is soooooo good for you!
Celery is loaded with organic sodium, which is one of most important alkalizing minerals. Most of us are deficient in organic sodium from years of eating a standard or acid-forming diet. Putting organic sodium back into your system will reduce or eliminate acid reflux disease, ease gastrointestinal distress, heal the lining of the stomach, aid digestion of proteins, and alkalize the bile of the liver and gallbladder (acid bile creates gallstones). Celery is a key part of the alkalizing aspects of the raw food diet. Celery is most easily absorbed when it's juiced.

Celery mixes well with cucumbers in a juice. The organic sodium of celery transports the water and silica rich cucumber juice into your tissues, creating a state of ultra hydration. The following recipe is one of the most beautifying and cleansing of all juices:

Green Beauty
6 stalks of celery
1 small cucumber handful of spinach (or other leafy green)
1 large apple

Run all ingredients through a juicer and serve over ice in a tall glass for ultimate beautification!

New Horizons

Having just traveled through a series of challenging life experiences, I wanted to share with you some recent insights that have helped me think about change and about new beginnings. This writing is from my personal journal, revealing my spiritual perspective on these life circumstances....

We all remember blowing the seeds off of a dandelions as children. What was it about the act of blowing on them, watching their fluffy little seeds floating away in different directions, that was so intriguing? I wonder just how many dandelions I germinated as a child? It had to be thousands!

Just the way blowing on a dandelion head disperses and maximizes the chances of one of its seeds finding a suitable place to set down roots and continue it's life cycle, so is the simple act of letting go and allowing the forces of life to propel the seeds we sow. It's an integral part of life.

As life blows us in new directions or propels us onto a new stage, we often become uneasy. How many times do we, in our humanness, try to cling to the familiar, holding on tightly, instead of allowing change to carry us along to new paths? Fear of the unknown can be overwhelming to many of us, preventing us from living a life that is FULLY ALIVE and from enjoying the abundance that awaits.

We may feel like at times we are being blown apart, just like the head of a dandelion. But I believe in these circumstances, God in His infinite wisdom, already has a place prepared where we can put down our roots, bloom and thrive as we trust and embrace these times of newness and growth.

This reflection was inspired by a daily reading entry from The Upper Room.

RFR Gets Juicy!

My Raw Food Rehab 11 Week Experiment is in it's final stretch and will be officially coming to a close this coming Sunday. It has been a life changing experience for many of the participants, and certainly for me, as well. I'm busting my buttons to fill you in on the details of what's actually transpired inside the Rehab unit over the past 10 weeks, however, I will wait until all of the final statistics have been compiled. Although much of the research will appear in my upcoming book, Raw Food Cleanse, I'll be sharing some of the highlights with you here on Real Food Tulsa.

Until then, I thought you might enjoy a glimpse at some of the juicer photos that were submitted from participants. This is a collection that I put together of the fresh fruit and vegetable juices and smoothies that were added to the site. What a juicy, creative group of guinea piglets I had!

So today....why don't you get in on the action? Go make yourself a big green juice or smoothie and do your body some good! Let us know what you make in the comments, OK?
